If you were a custodian of your own pub, Hugh, what would you call it?
The GOALTENDERS Arms?

There was the Red Lion that become a Firkin pub, Earl Derby, Coach and Horses, Lord Raglan. The Foresters Arms, Duke of Cumberland. Earl of Beaconsfield near the cemetery. Greyhound and Hare., Lord Chelmsford, Prince Albert. The Sultan Ime quite sure there are others I've missed. Wow, we have lost many good establishments over the years.

MMG - I used to drink in the Phantom and Firkin regularly in the late 80's. My mate used to live about 100 yards away on the corner of Balaam St and Dongola Road East

It was Dogbolter in the Phantom wasn't it? The pump label had a double outline of a bulldog to make it look as though you were seeing double.
Good times.

I recall visiting The Canteen & Toby tavern after a few games in the early 90s both good pubs although cant quite remember where they were situated, Also the Greyhound & Railway as well as the Black lion. Now only go to Tap East pre game & stop off at Farringdon or King's Cross on the way home.

Strodders The Canteen was just in Vicarage Lane off the Port way near West Ham church. The Toby Tavern was further down the Portway near West Ham Park. Good pubs like you say. The Britiania was also close by.

Not being able to walk to the ground from a decent boozer (not packed to the rafters and ideally showing the early kick off is pretty much all I ask) is right up there among the worst things about moving to the Shithole

The Abbey Arms is still a proper pub, got a decent little outside area now as well.
Well, up until the latest lockdown...
